During my first job as a management trainee, one of my first tasks was to create a training module for contract staff which comprised of the contingent workforce, the employees basically comprised of security guards, drivers, hospitality staff including janitors.

After the module was developed and designed, to my surprise none in their HR department volunteered to train them, nor was my training module sponsored. Despite my best efforts, could not find any support in running this training. The only way left out was to volunteer and train. On that eventful day, told myself, instead training module gathers dust, to me a better idea was to take this risk and go ahead.

I took some time to prepare to ensure that my delivery meets the training need, my motive was imparting training to create an impact, so who the audience was never bothered me. Perhaps the audience was the underlying reason, why none of the staff took any interest to train them. But this wisdom dawn upon me very late in my career

The training went as per schedule and was able to even run few sessions in the local language for those who could not follow the primary language of training which was (English)

Several years later, visiting one of my ailing paternal uncles, happened to visit the same health care unit and was surprised when I was greeted and welcomed by a bunch of security staff and drivers, exhibiting with excellence the service concepts taught to them several years ago. One of them, hurriedly came forward, open the door of my car greeted me with a salute, which made other onlookers stop and stare, at this juncture I was both surprised and a bit nervous for such sudden turn of attention by everyone on me, I didn’t stop any further and moved ahead, never being an attention seeker , a sudden spurge of it made me very uncomfortable .

I politely went ahead, and while returning inquired, to which I learned that these were the same employees trained by a novice a few years ago on service excellence

I couldn’t stop smiling, on my way back, overwhelmed with emotions of humility and gratitude.

Even though in my entire career span won many accolades and rewards, but this incident stayed me to this date, with an emotion of being rewarded in the truest sense.

Learnt that; The Divine has its uncanny ways of rewarding us, and no single act is considered big or small, for we never know the kind of impact it may end up creating
