A colleague of mine was excellent in MS excel ,and I , a newbie in the big corporate world awestruck and trying hard to find my ground .
In a reward ceremony each one of us were asked to give feedback about him for what he had won.I gave an excellent feedback .which was nothing but a pack of lies .
My feedback was my way of seeking acceptance from the crowd, I wanted them to like me,approve me and accept me.
In reality I had a real bad experience with him ,when he curtly refused to help me ,and even looked down on me as someone lacking in any knowledge of the skills he had.
I accepted the rude behavior ,considering it to be his right ,an entitlement!
It took many years, for me, to understand that it I was way too ahead of him in almost all spheres ,including the talent and skills he once looked down upon me.
When I recall this episode 3 years ago, I made a note in my journal which goes like this
This experience taught me , that I craved for acceptance and being in good books of others ,without any idea why I wanted this, Why I was a seeking acceptance at the cost of my values ….
